A plant’s growth takes attention, care, and patience to grow into a healthy plant from a seed under the ground.

Using the two photos I took from Mongolia volunteer teaching program at two very different places, I composed an image of a plant. The school I visit every summer has a horrible architectural condition. Unique-colored paints on walls are scraped off from time, electric lines and switches are exposed in a bare form, windows are broken, and floors are shattered.

Observing these elements in close-up, I visualize the history of the school and life of children studying at the school. Underprivileged children come to the summer workshop to learn subjects not taught by the school’s regular education.

I have lasting friendships with the students I taught for the past ten years, and it is rewarding to see them grow up to shine in their area of interest. It will be truly rewarding to see them become visible in their society because I know they put in endless effort, endure their hardships, and keep hoping.
